Rainbow Mountain, Peru -
レインボーマウンテンは、ペルーのアンデス山脈の一つ、アウサンガテ山群の外れにあります。約5100mにある展望台は2010年頃から観光地になりました。とはいえ、駐車場から1時間の上り坂は高度順応していない人にはなかなか厳しいです。草原には、アルパカが草を食んでいてのどかでした。

Rainbow Mountain is located in the Ausangate mountain range, Peru. It became a tourist destination around 2010 for its observatory at about 5100 meters. Nevertheless, the hour-long ascent from the parking lot is quite demanding for those who are not acclimatized to the high altitude. It was peaceful with alpacas grazing in the meadow.

La Montaña del Arco Iris se encuentra en la cordillera del Ausangate, Perú. Se convirtió en destino turístico hacia 2010 por su observatorio a unos 5100 metros. Sin embargo, el ascenso de una hora desde el aparcamiento es bastante exigente para quienes no están aclimatados a la gran altitud. Era tranquilo, con alpacas pastando en la pradera.

Suri Alpaca in Peru / 希少なアルパカ「スーリー種」
南米に生息するラクダは、大きく分けると、リャマ、アルパカ、ビクーニャ、グアナコの４種類です。
その中のアルパカは、さらに２品種に分けられます。９割はワカヨ種と呼ばれる、モコモコの外見がトレードマークの良く知られるアルパカです。そして、１割の希少種がスーリー種です。直毛の毛が地面に届くほどに長いのが特徴です。

There are four main types of camels in South America: llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, and guanacos.
Alpacas are further divided into two breeds: 90% are the well-known alpaca called the Huacayo, whose trademark is their fuzzy appearance. And the rare 10 percent are the Suri breed. The Sury is characterized by its long, straight hair that reaches the ground.

En Sudamérica hay cuatro tipos principales de camellos: llamas, alpacas, vicuñas y guanacos.
Las alpacas se dividen a su vez en dos razas: El 90% son las conocidas alpacas Huacayo, cuya característica es su aspecto peludo. Y el escaso 10% son de la raza Suri. La Suri se caracteriza por su pelo largo y liso que llega hasta el suelo.

Quarry in Machu Picchu, Peru -マチュピチュ遺跡の石切り場-
マチュピチュ遺跡のほぼ中心部に、建材の石を切り出す採石場があります。神殿に近接していることからも、完成後にはここもきっと何かの建築物になったのでしょう。ミリ単位で細かく設計するインカ人が、なぜ未完成で遺跡を放棄したのでしょうか。石切り場から見るマチュピチュ遺跡は私のお気に入りの風景です。ここから望むマチュピチュに、日本人の心の琴線に触れる「無常」を感じ取ることができるからだと思っています。

Almost at the center of the Machu Picchu ruins is a quarry where stones for building materials are quarried. The proximity of the quarry to the temple suggests that this area must have been used as some kind of building after the temple was completed. Why would the Incas, who designed their buildings to the millimeter, abandon the ruins when they were unfinished? The view of the Machu Picchu ruins from the quarry is one of my favorite sights.

Casi en el centro de las ruinas de Machu Picchu hay una cantera donde se extraen piedras para materiales de construcción. La proximidad de la cantera al templo sugiere que esta zona debió de utilizarse como algún tipo de edificio una vez terminado el templo. ¿Por qué los incas, que diseñaban sus edificios al milímetro, abandonarían las ruinas cuando estaban inacabadas? La vista de las ruinas de Machu Picchu desde la cantera es una de mis vistas favoritas.
