Photographic exhibition of Akira Matsui “PATAGONIA – Tracing the wind”
I am planning a photographic exhibition entitled “Patagonia – Tracing the Wind” for February next year. The region of Patagonia, at the southern tip of South America, is divided by the Andes Mountains between Argentina to the east and Chile to the west. The subject of this exhibition is the Fitz Roy Mountains on the Argentine side.

Concept of the exhibition
The Patagonia region, at the southern tip of the South American continent, is known as the “Land of the Winds” because of the storms that blow in from Antarctica.
It is an otherworldly place, with mysterious lenticular clouds always hovering in the sky and the needle-like peaks of the Andes beyond the grasslands. The winds, containing enormous amounts of moisture, first hit the Andes, creating the “Southern Patagonian Ice Field”. The countless overflowing glaciers have sharply carved the mountains and valleys.
Next, the descending winds are extremely dry, allowing the “Pampa” to extend to the horizon.
In Patagonia, the wind is the master of all things. See the drama of the “ends of the earth” through the life that lives with the wind and the spectacular landscapes it creates.
The exhibition presents photographs taken over a period of 12 years, mainly around Argentina’s Mount Fitz Roy.
